In Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, Maryland, and Minnesota, a notary may not notarize a record to which the notary or the notary's spouse (or, in New Mexico, domestic partner) is a party — the act is voidable; Kentucky, Michigan, and Missouri go further and bar acts for the notary's spouse or close family (Missouri also bars a domestic partner, ancestor, descendant, or sibling).
